Why is Registry Cleaner finding errors when my PC is brand new?

When scanning on a brand new PC, CyberDefender Registry Cleaner can find a variety of registry errors given that the Microsoft OS (as with other software applications) creates a number of registry entries at install that are not needed once the install/setup is complete. Typical areas which Registry Cleaner scans and finds these types of errors might include:

  1. User Software Settings
  2. System Software Settings
  3. ActiveX and COM components
  4. File Associations
  5. Uninstall Sections

Typical errors found in these areas might include the following:

  1. Empty Keys
  2. Missing or Invalid Paths
  3. Missing or bad files
  4. Missing File Associations
  5. Uninstall Associations

Some Examples of these errors which might be detected are the following:

  1. Empty key: A registry key that doesn't contain any values. An example of this would be all the keys set up for the windows screen savers (ex. "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Screen Saver.3DPipes"). Some are important for storing user settings, but most are empty and don't store settings.
  2. ./HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.Missing or Invalid Path: Registry keys that contain paths to files that don't exist or the paths are invalid. An example of this would be the temp directories set up and then deleted for all the windows update installers.
("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Patches\17AFD8C1970420F48BBB7411BC2A165F5\Net\1" which points to "c:\842c824348a531bc7c16bd05a8\dotnetfx30\" which no longer exists on the drive).
  3. Missing or bad file: Again, references to missing or bad files (ex. "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5A8371A3-0C6D-487b-B3C8-46D785C4C940" which points to eapahost.dll, a networking component that is not installed by default, and, since Windows Vista, appears to have been deprecated).
  4. Uninstall Associations: Empty keys put in by Microsoft by default for installs (at this point primarily updates) that aren't required, and were never populated.

After the scan completes, Registry Cleaner lists problems by category, and clicking on any category will display a list of what was found. Furthermore, double clicking any individual entry will open up the registry editor and seek to the key in question.
